Werder Bremen have announced that they have completed the loan signing of midfielder Cameron Puertas from Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah.

The 27-year-old moves to the Weserstadion on a season-long loan, with kicker reporting there is an option to buy in the loan agreement as well.

On moving to Bremen, Puertas said:

“It gives me the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga and in front of a great crowd. A lot of people watch the games. That’s why I’m happy to be able to wear the Werder jersey.”

Part of the reason Puertas was allowed to leave Saudi Arabia after only one year was because of a rule that limited Saudi Pro League sides to only eight foreign players, and with the arrivals of Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Julian Weigl and Matteo Retegui from Atalanta, there was no space for him.

Puertas also wants to play at the World Cup. He is eligible for both Spain and Switzerland.

At Bremen, the midfielder will also reunite with former teammates from his time at Union Saint-Gilloise. Both Senne Lynen and Victor Boniface played alongside Puertas in Brussels. While fellow new summer arrival Issac Schmidt was a classmate of Puertas at school, they are both from Lausanne.
