This Monday, Rachid Ghezzal explained the reasons behind his return to OL.

Rachid Ghezzal, the Algerian winger who came up through the club's academy and wore the Lyon shirt until 2017, has made his return to OL. Now a free agent after his contract with Caykur Ziespor ended, the 33-year-old has rejoined his boyhood club on a one-year deal with an option for a further season.

Invited by streamer Zack Nani to speak during ZEvent, the winger opened up about this unexpected signing. "To be honest, the club had other priorities it couldn’t pursue while the transfer window was still open because of its complicated recruitment situation. After the window closed, the club had opportunities with free agents. There was a gap in my position, and it’s a profile that coach Paulo Fonseca approved, so I’m really happy," he explained.

He went on to add that everything happened quickly once talks began: "It all happened very fast. From the moment we started talking, it was done within 24 hours. When I was told there was a chance to come back, there was no need to even talk about it, I just went for it."
