Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be interested in a shock return to Manchester United as caretaker manager, per journalist Rich Fay.
The Red Devils parted company with Ruben Amorim after his stunning comments about the club’s hierarchy following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Leeds United.
United have put Darren Fletcher in interim charge, but they are looking to appoint a caretaker before making a permanent appointment next summer.
Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner is reportedly the leading candidate. Enzo Maresca, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel and Michael Carrick are also in contention.
With a short-term role potentially available, Solskjaer has expressed an interest in making a shock return to his former club.
The Norwegian has been out of a job since being sacked by Turkish outfit Besiktas in August after they were knocked out of the Europa Conference League play-offs by Lausanne.
United appointed Solskjaer as a caretaker manager in December 2018 following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
He led the club to an incredible 11-match unbeaten run, prompting the club’s hierarchy to hand him the permanent role.
United secured third and second-place finishes in the Premier League under Solskjaer. They also reached five semi-finals out of six in cup competitions.
However, a miserable run of one win in seven top-flight matches eventually led to his dismissal in November 2021.
