Haralabos Voulgaris’s project at Castellón now extends to the backroom. Pablo Hernández’s staff has been expanded and refreshed this summer, with significant changes.

The latest addition is Simon Rusk. The club said in a statement that the 44-year-old has joined as an assistant to Hernández.

Rusk developed at Brighton, worked within the England set-up, then held roles at Stockport County, Nottingham Forest and Southampton. He has bridged youth development and senior football, and will share assistant duties with Sergi Ripollés.

Further turnover includes the set-piece post. Feyenoord paid a fee to take Rody Hoegee after an outstanding year, and Castellón have appointed Mathias Haugaasen.

Haugaasen, 47, began in Norway with Valerenga, Grorud and Bryne. He later scouted for Manchester United before joining the Norwegian federation to coach youth national teams.

There is also a change in the goalkeeping department, with Carlos Gómez departing and English coach Jack Stern, 38, arriving.

The club have created a new sports science role to coordinate the coaching and medical teams on injury prevention and management. The post has been taken by Aleix Monlleó, from la Vilavella.
