Palmeiras have hailed Gustavo Gómez, Ramón Sosa and Mauricio after Paraguay booked a World Cup last-16 place.

The club said in a post that it was a memorable match and praised the Paraguayan trio for continuing to make history.

Paraguay beat Germany 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Gómez, Paraguay’s captain, converted one of the four successful spot-kicks. Mauricio came on in the second half, took the first kick and scored. Sosa remained on the bench.

Paraguay now await the winner of France v Sweden to discover their last-16 opponents. The tie is scheduled for Saturday at 18:00 Brasília time.
