Paul Pogba has left Monaco by mutual consent a year after arriving in the Principality, with the 33-year-old now a free agent. The club said in a statement that both parties agreed to end a deal running to June 2027, noting that initial objectives had only been partially met and that the decision came before the first competitive match of the new season.
Pogba joined Monaco in the summer of 2025 after leaving Juventus in December 2024. He had been serving an 18-month doping ban that ran until March 2025.
He struggled to regain the physical level required for elite competition. Last season he featured in six Ligue 1 matches, made one start at Metz, and played a total of 115 minutes.
The midfielder is currently sidelined with a left thigh strain, having also endured a right knee issue during pre-season. Monaco praised his attitude, determination and high standards, adding that he returned to top-level action after a long absence while sharing his experience with the squad.
Chief executive Thiago Scuro described the move as a bold and ambitious challenge whose outcome was not as hoped, though Pogba’s return generated enthusiasm and brought him back to professional football.
Pogba thanked the president, club hierarchy, team-mates, staff and supporters, and accepted he had not played as many matches as he wanted. Now out of contract, he could look to continue his career in the Middle East or the United States.
