Benfica completed the winter signing of Sidny Cabral after his rapid rise at Estrela da Amadora. Technical director and head of scouting Paulo Moreira has outlined how he was first identified.
"Someone who had worked with me, very competent and with great knowledge of the German market, gave me several references and allowed us to reach Sidny." He told Record.
Cabral arrived at Estrela on a free from Germany’s third tier and quickly established himself. "Our first big screening was made easier. Then we carried out our evaluation, with the work validated by a specialist," Moreira added.
Before the move to Benfica was finalised, the president at Reboleira assessed Cabral personally. "I was not yet at the club, but I was already speaking directly to the president and told him to watch him because he was different, two-footed, with many distinctive attributes. When the president saw him, he liked him straight away."
José Mourinho had previously praised Cabral, describing him as a player who "greatly benefits his team by being truly versatile." This season across Estrela da Amadora and Benfica, the Cape Verde international, valued at 2 million euros, has 23 appearances, 20 in Liga Portugal Betclic, two in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga, with six goals and five assists.
