Peñarol have opted to keep Arezo permanently after two consecutive loans, with the decision made before Tuesday’s deadline to exercise their purchase option. According to Globo.com, the move brings the striker’s time at Grêmio to a close.

Grêmio will receive 3.5 million dollars, R$ 18.1 million, in total, with 3.1 million dollars split into three annual instalments due in 2027, 2028 and 2029.

The overall figure includes 400,000 dollars, R$ 2 million, owed for extending the loan from 2025 to 2026, of which a 200,000 dollar tranche, R$ 1 million, has already been paid.

Arezo has 21 goals in 47 matches for Peñarol since returning in August last year.

River Plate, of Uruguay, hold 50 percent of the player’s economic rights, so they are entitled to half of what Grêmio receive. The club lodged a case with Fifa last week seeking 100,000 dollars from the first loan instalment.

Grêmio bought 50 percent of Arezo’s rights in July 2024 for 3 million euros, around R$ 17 million at the time, but he never established himself as a regular starter.
