Grêmio could face transfer ban over delayed Arezo loan payment | OneFootball

Grêmio have missed a payment due to River Plate-URU from Arezo’s loan to Peñarol, and could face a transfer ban. According to Globo.com, a FIFA deadline expired on Monday and the Uruguayans have asked FIFA to impose a transfer ban, which has not been imposed.

The overdue instalment is US$ 100,000, about R$ 500,000. A second US$ 100,000 payment also remains outstanding, but its FIFA deadline has not yet fallen due.

River Plate-URU informed FIFA of the delay in June, and a new deadline was then granted.

Grêmio renewed Arezo’s loan to Peñarol in December last year, receiving US$ 400,000 in two instalments. River Plate-URU own 50% of the player’s economic rights and are entitled to half of that sum.

The club were contacted for comment. In June, the board said they could settle the debt before any ban and maintained that, given the relatively small figure, it would not take long to resolve.

In July, Peñarol exercised the purchase of Arezo for US$ 3,100,000, around R$ 16,000,000. Payment is due in three annual instalments each January from 2027 to 2029.
