Southampton are set to sign Manchester City striker Divin Mubama on a season-long loan for 2026/27, replacing Ross Stewart after his free move to Swansea. According to Sainstmarching.com, the 21-year-old is the club’s chosen addition up front.
If a deal is finalised in time, Mubama could join up before the opening Championship match at Watford, at Vicarage Road. The England youth forward has 11 goals for the Three Lions at age-group level, and moved from West Ham to City in 2024 at 19.
Former City boss Pep Guardiola offered glowing praise just over six months into Mubama’s City stay, highlighting his movement and eye for goal.
“His movements are unbelievable! The way he moves in right tempo, the way he presses,” Pep raved. “The movement for the first goal is perfectly as a striker, it looks easy but how he made the one counter movement against the defender… It’s really, really good! I’m really pleased for many positive things!”
The endorsement will encourage Saints fans, and Mubama is set to become Southampton’s first left-footed striker since Manolo Gabbiadini. He is not the finished article, but shows Premier League traits and crisp left-foot finishing.
A mixed loan at Stoke City last season still yielded five Championship goals in 26 appearances, and he was sent off for a second yellow for simulation in a 2-1 Potters win at St Mary’s. This looks an astute, cost-conscious move that could prove inspired in a year’s time.
