Port Vale have issued a response after fans were seen fighting in the away end during their 3-0 defeat to Wolves in the EFL Cup on Friday night.

Port Vale have confirmed they are working to ‘establish the facts’ after fans were seen fighting in the away end at Wolves in the EFL Cup tie at Molineux on Friday night.

The League Two side made the short trip to the Black Country for their first game of the campaign, and whilst Wolves ultimately ran out 3-0 winners, the scoreline arguably flattered the Championship outfit.

Vale missed a great chance early on to take the lead, and they also spurned a few more big opportunities in the first-half, whilst Mo Faal missed a penalty after the break.

But, goals from Adam Armstrong, Andre and Fer Lopez gave Wolves the win, and Cesar Peixoto’s side did appear to ease up in the second half.

Port Vale were backed by around 2,500 fans for the game, and the impressive away following were in good voice early on.

However, a clip was shared on social media that showed a number of supporters fighting each other in the away end, which prompted the police to get involved.

Obviously, it wasn’t a good look for the club, and, taking to X, Vale confirmed that they are looking into what went on in the stands.

“We’re aware of an incident in the stands at last night’s game and will be working closely with Wolverhampton Wanderers and the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding it.

“We take matters of this nature seriously and will consider any appropriate action once the facts have been established.”

This was a big game for Vale, and, despite the scoreline, there were some positives to take for Brady in terms of the way the team played against a Wolves side that are tipped for promotion.

Of course, there are also ways to improve, and the manner of the first two goals they conceded will disappoint the boss, and there’s no denying that Wolves’ extra quality was on show at times.

But, sadly, the talking point of the game will be about what went on in the away end, and it’s very unusual to see the same set of supporters clashing like that.

This is a fixture that has been feisty in the past, with both games making headlines for the wrong reasons when Wolves were in League One over a decade ago, but this seems to have been an incident only involving Port Vale supporters.

There are some young children in the videos that have been shared, and it will be a concern to the club that they are seeing scenes like this, especially inside a stadium, which is not common nowadays.

To their credit, Port Vale have addressed the issue with this statement, and it’s obviously not the fault of the club that individuals have behaved like that.
