Rafa Mir faces a prosecution request for 10 and a half years in prison over an alleged aggravated sexual assault in September 2024. The move comes the same week Espanyol’s Omar El Hilali accused him of racist abuse during the match at the Martínez Valero.
Las Provincias reports that the public prosecutor is seeking nine years for aggravated sexual assault with penetration, plus one year and six months for causing injuries.
The request also includes a 13-year restraining order, barring contact and approaching within 500 metres of the complainant, an eight-year ban on work involving contact with minors, and seven years of supervised release. It seeks 64,000 euros in compensation for physical injuries and moral harm, with medical reports citing an adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood and a bruise to her right arm.
The alleged assault is said to have occurred on the first of September 2024 at Mir’s home in the Torre development in Conill de Bétera, when he was a Valencia player. The case has overshadowed his loan spell at Elche, which runs until June.
Mir was detained at the time and gave evidence remotely in October from Palma de Mallorca to the investigating judge in Llíria. He was indicted on a charge of sexual assault with penetration and violence, and posted bail of 12,500 euros.
His legal team denies all allegations and disputes the indictment. Mir has avoided commenting on his legal situation in interviews and press conferences. Elche continues to defend his presumption of innocence and declined to comment on the latest development.
