Samuel Gomez Van Hoogen is going to swap PSV for Club Brugge. The 19-year-old defender failed to reach an agreement with the national champions on a new contract and is now returning to his native country, where he will sign a multi-year contract.

PSV picked up Gomez Van Hoogen from SK Lierse’s academy in 2017. The Belgian went through the entire youth academy and made his debut this season for Jong PSV in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie as well as for the first team in the KNVB Cup.

The Eindhoven team wanted to extend the contract with the Belgian youth international, but were unable to reach an agreement on a new deal.

Gomez Van Hoogen, who has a Spanish father and a Dutch mother, will now try his luck at Club Brugge. The Belgian Pro League’s second-place side are involved in the title race with Union Saint-Gilloise, will give him gametime in the summer during preseason preparations. He may later join the reserve team, who play in the second-tier Challenger Pro League.

PSV will still make money from Gomez Van Hoogen’s move. Club Brugge must pay the Eindhoven team a training compensation of more than three hundred thousand euros based on FIFA rules on transfers.
