Pundits are already excited about Jimmy-Jay Morgan getting off the mark after joining West Bromwich Albion from Chelsea on a permanent basis, having impressed for Peterborough United last season.

The 20-year-old is a versatile forward, with Peterborough United utilising him as a striker, winger, or attacking midfielder last season. James Morrison featured Jimmy-Jay Morgan against Rotherhan United, where he scored a brace during a 4-1 away win.

Morgan bagged 14 goals and four assists in 39 appearances in League One last season, which is why £1.3 million was paid by West Bromwich Albion to secure his signature from Chelsea back in June.

Morgan and 20-year-old Harry Whitwell were the stars against Rotherham and the duo could be part of an exciting campaign for West Brom under Morrison, having been guided to safety after a strong end to 2025/26 in the Championship.

Their campaign gets underway this weekend with a mouthwatering clash against Norwich City at Carrow Road, with Sam Parkin bigging up Morgan's impact against Rotherham when speaking via Benjamin Bloom's YouTube channel.

He said: "West Brom toyed with them really for 45 minutes. A couple of individuals, you mentioned Jimmy-Jay. Morgan, I'm not a massive one for predictions just because I think at this stage of the season you can be left with a lot of egg on your face, but I think he could get bundles.

"I watched one of the pre-season games and he could have squared the ball for Aune Heggebo to get a tap in on about three occasions. So, I think the only person who's going to get a bit annoyed with him and not be too enamored with him is his strike partner because this boy shoots from everywhere, which I think is a good characteristic in a young lad.

"It can be frustrating for a teammate, but he just looks like he's got an insatiable desire to get goals. He does position himself slightly left, but he gets in between the posts. His anticipation's great for the first goal. It was a misit Whitwell shot that he flicked in. He scored a header in the second half.

"And yeah, in pre-season I think he got five leading into this one. So he's pretty much scored in every outing. He got two on his debut. He did wonders at Peterborough last year. He could get a lot of goals this season. So I really enjoyed his performance."

Morgan's long-term position remains difficult to pin down, which is arguably a positive given how young he still is. He has mostly been deployed as a striker so far, but has also shown an ability to operate from the wing or just behind the main forward.

His goal record is excellent, though, having bagged well at a lower level and for Chelsea's youth team. However, his technical quality and movement could eventually see him settle as a versatile forward rather than a traditional nine.

Morgan is still fairly slender, which is why there is work to do at West Brom if he is to become a reliable lone striker, particularly against physical Championship defenders, adding strength and bulk may be important.

Otherwise, a future as a mobile second striker or wide forward could ultimately suit his qualities best. In Morrison's two-striker system, Morgan is perfect right now, which is why he ought to be pushing for double figures for goals.

West Brom could have an absolute gem on their hands if Morgan possesses the appetite for goals that Parkin believes he does. The young forward has excelled in his last couple of seasons in the EFL now, particularly during his time with Peterborough United.

His development has started to translate into consistent senior output. If Morgan can turn that natural hunger into regular goals at Championship level, the Baggies may have found a forward capable of developing into a major asset and becoming a Premier League player in time.

His versatility only adds to the intrigue, but ultimately, it is that desire to get into dangerous positions and finish chances that could determine just how high his ceiling is. Given Harry Kane's age, England coaches will also be eyeing the progress of the young attackers in the EFL even more closely.
