Pundit still not convinced with Juventus midfield despite Sarr’s arrival | OneFootball

After missing out on signing Franck Kessie, Juventus added Pape Matar Sarr to their squad in the final hours of the transfer window.

The Senegal star has arrived in Turin to bolster their midfield, a position the Bianconeri always knew they had to strengthen in their bid to ensure this season ends successfully.

Throughout the summer, they wanted to add Kessie to their squad, and everyone knew the Ivorian was a top player who could solve their problems in that role immediately.

However, a move for him never materialised, and the midfielder opted to join Atalanta late in the window instead, forcing Juve to turn their attention towards Sarr.

The Senegalese star is a talented player who has shown plenty of promise while playing for Tottenham, but he cannot be compared with Kessie, who has Serie A experience and has already proven his worth in the competition.

Sarr arrival raises questions

Juventus hope they have assembled a strong enough squad to compete for titles when the window closes, but Marco Piccari is not convinced that Sarr’s arrival has solved their midfield problem.

The Bianconeri had identified midfield as an area requiring improvement, and their failure to land Kessie means Sarr has arrived under pressure to help address that weakness.

Although Sarr can offer energy, physicality and promise, Juve may still lack the quality they need to control matches against the strongest opponents.

Piccari wants more quality

The midfielder now has an opportunity to prove that he can make an important contribution in Turin, but Piccari believes Juventus need another type of player to truly improve the area.

He said via Tuttojuve:

“Juventus has given me more shadows than lights. Something’s missing, and while Sarr is a decent player, quality is still lacking in midfield.

“We need someone in the middle who can provide some light amidst the quantity and physicality of the others.”

Sarr will now hope to prove that Juventus made the right decision by turning to him after their pursuit of Kessie ended without an agreement. His arrival strengthens the squad, but there are still questions over whether the Bianconeri have enough quality in midfield to challenge for major honours.
