Rayan scored twice as Vasco opened 2026 with a 4-2 win over Maricá, a night that felt like a possible farewell. The forward’s situation drew emotion from the stands and from the player himself.

According to Globo.com, a fee of 35 million euros has been agreed with Bournemouth, with discussions now centring on add-ons and a future sell-on. The move remains advanced rather than complete.

Rayan had almost been left out of the squad because talks had progressed, yet he insisted on playing and asked to feature. He wanted to represent Vasco while no contract had been signed with the Premier League club.

From the terraces came his trademark “boa noite” and pleas of “fica” as he left the pitch. He waved to the crowd, then embraced team-mates on the bench and head coach Fernando Diniz.

Diniz said he sees intense potential in Rayan and believes this is not the moment for him to leave. He argued the striker should stay at Vasco this season to assert himself, then head to Europe better prepared.

Earlier on Thursday, Rayan and his camp informed the board they had accepted Bournemouth’s salary terms, and the club tabled an offer. In the afternoon he met Vasco executives and expressed his wish to play in Europe, with Bournemouth’s stepping-stone plan appealing to all parties. There is still no final agreement.
