RCD Espanyol are considering Monchi for a senior sporting role next season, a development watched closely in Nervión given his enduring influence over Sevilla’s recent history.

Cadena COPE reports that Monchi is the club’s preferred candidate to replace Fran Garagarza, who remains under contract until next season, with the board planning to end his tenure at the close of the current campaign.

Monchi attended Sunday’s match between RCD Espanyol and Real Madrid at the RCDE Stadium, watching from a VIP box. His presence sparked talk of possible discussions, though he continues to focus on his role at CD San Fernando 1940.

For Sevilla supporters, any move around their former sporting director revives memories of the club’s golden spell. From 2000, across more than 20 non-consecutive seasons, he remodelled the operation and delivered 11 trophies, highlighted by seven Europa League titles.

His scouting network also produced significant transfer profits with players such as Dani Alves, Julio Baptista and Ivan Rakitic. The model later showed strain in LaLiga.
