Marc Cucurella is the latest name to join the rebuild of Real Madrid under José Mourinho. The Spanish left-back has left Chelsea for the Madrid side on a six-year contract.

The transfer fee has not been officially disclosed, but it is understood to be in the region of €55 million, with a further €5 million potentially available in future bonuses – a significant outlay that underlines the policy promised by recently re-elected Florentino Pérez, with the aim of rebuilding the squad after a disappointing campaign.

Cucurella spent four years at Chelsea where He made 163 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists in total. It was a spell that saw him lift the Conference League and the Club World Cup as well as winning Euro 2024 with Spain while representing the Blues.

The defender spent five years away from Spain, having last played in the country for Getafe, who sold him to Brighton for €18 million back in 2021.

Curiously, Cucurella was born in Catalonia and came through the ranks at Real's arch-rivals Barcelona – a team he had been linked with in recent weeks.
