Real Madrid have reached a full agreement to sign Marc Cucurella, with an announcement possible within hours, Fabrizio Romano reports. It would be their third signing after Konaté and Dumfries for Mourinho’s new project.
Madrid moved to reinforce left-back, seen as a weak spot in the squad. Ferland Mendy is injured and not due back until the end of the year, Álvaro Carreras struggled and Fran García is set to be sold. The fee could reach 50 million euros.
Chelsea had given Cucurella the green light to leave and were listening to offers. Atlético Madrid had been negotiating for months but balked at a price above that level, allowing Madrid to step in quickly.
Barcelona were keen on the former Barça defender, and Deco sought information. Their ideal scenario was selling Balde to fund Cucurella, but he does not want to leave and the club are prioritising Joao Cancelo, so they have missed out.
Cucurella was aware of Barça’s interest but has chosen Madrid, who put the money on the table and fit his aim of returning to Spain. Mourinho had authorised the deal and asked the club to move fast. The next addition could be Bernardo Silva.
