Raul Asencio was once regarded as the face of the Real Madrid academy when he made the breakthrough in the first team.

But since then, the defender has gone through a major decline and is not even the fourth-best pick in central defence right now.

To make things worse, the Spaniard was stopped at a breathalyser checkpoint at 6:30 AM on August 16 in the south of Gran Canaria while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Asencio under the radar

According to Melchor Ruiz, Real Madrid have already opened disciplinary proceedings against Raul Asencio.

The defender tested positive in both the initial and secondary breath tests, exceeding the legal limit.

He was subsequently summoned to a fast-track trial, where he was handed a fine of €14,400 at a rate of €120 per day for four months, along with an eight-month suspension of his driving license.

Following the incident becoming public this Wednesday, Real Madrid have moved swiftly, opening an extraordinary disciplinary file against the player.

The club will investigate the matter and, depending on the severity of the infraction, will impose a financial penalty or other sanction.

What sanctions could Asencio face?

Under the La Liga-AFE collective agreement, Asencio’s actions could be classified as either a serious or very serious offence, reports Mundo Deportivo.

If deemed serious, the club could suspend him from salary for between two and ten days, along with a financial fine of up to seven percent of the first €100,000 of his monthly wages.

Should it be classified as very serious, the punishment escalates significantly, with a suspension of eleven to thirty days and fines reaching up to 25% of the first €100,000 of his monthly salary.

In extreme cases, the agreement even allows for dismissal, though that outcome appears unlikely in this instance.

Real Madrid are not obligated to make the final resolution public, though they did so last season when dealing with the incident involving Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, which was resolved within 24 hours.

This is yet another low for Asencio, who is already on the club’s bad books after refusing the leave this summer, thus blocking the way for a potential new signing.
