Rennes have scrambled to stage Sunday’s Ligue 1 opener against double European champions PSG after a late venue switch, with Roazhon Park set to sell out at 20:45. According to L'Équipe, the LFP competitions commission confirmed the move on Wednesday due to the poor Parc des Princes pitch.
Online sales were besieged for a PSG visit, the website slowed under demand. Of 29,000 seats, 16,000 are reserved for season-ticket holders, and traffic peaked at 60,000, highlighting the ground’s limits.
Rennes have been permitted to open the kop stand. A disciplinary order had closed it for what was to be the first league game against Le Mans on 30 August after excessive use of flares last season.
Supporters bound for the Parc have had to cancel. The Roazhon Celtic Kop and the Socios planned a coach trip at €60 with a €10 ticket, now abandoned. Parc des Princes purchases will be refunded in the coming days.
Roazhon's Call Paris, a 200-strong Rennes group, called it a surprise and a disappointment. They had booked 100 tickets after three weeks' work, will watch in their bar in the 15th arrondissement, and about 20 will travel to Rennes, though train and hotel bookings could be trickier for others.
The late flip sparked a race against time, but the club and providers have assembled the workforce for operations. About 1,800 people will work the event, including stewards, security, staff for nine VIP lounges, employees and maintenance, plus galette-saucisse stalls around the ground.
