Foot Mercato reports that Rennes are exploring a move to bring Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd, 30, back to the club.

The Morocco international spent two seasons at Rennes between 2020 and 2022, making 66 appearances before joining West Ham United.

He returned to Ligue 1 last summer when Marseille signed him after a loan at Real Sociedad.

Aguerd’s future at the Vélodrome is uncertain as OM look to raise funds and comply with DNCG financial restrictions.

The centre-back is said to have a clause allowing him to leave for €15m, payable in a single instalment, if triggered before the end of Friday, 31 July. After that deadline, Marseille would be free to seek a higher fee. His contract runs until 2030.

Rennes are keen on a reunion, though the move is described as complicated at this stage.
