Valencia’s defence has endured a difficult year, hit by injuries and disrupted plans. With the window shut and a serious setback at right-back, the club have turned to free agents, selecting Renzo Saravia.
According to Superdeporte, the 32-year-old Argentine right-back blends defensive resolve with attacking intent. He earned regular Argentina call-ups after his 2018 debut, making nine appearances within a year.
Porto paid five and a half million to Racing in 2019, but he did not settle, moving on loan to Internacional before free transfers to Botafogo and Atlético Mineiro.
At 178 centimetres he is quick and intense, with the forward thrust often demanded from Valencia’s right flank. He is expected to add width and variety on that side.
Out of contract since leaving Atlético Mineiro in January, Saravia is not a player to bank on for goals or assists. He could, however, bring defensive bite and extra outlets for a side in need of his profile.
Tactically he is more attack-minded than Foulquier, with strong delivery from wide and deeper zones. He may aid build-up when Carlos Corberán uses three at the back, or step inside when the winger holds the width, an approach that has rarely worked this season.
