FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund have already faced each other in one competitive match this season—the Super Cup. The record champions won that match 2–1. During the game, a few of Dortmund’s new signings caught the eye.

First and foremost among them was Konstantinos Karetsas. The young Greek player impressed with his quick turns, solid technique, and tight ball control.

He is clearly a player who has particularly caught the eye of Vincent Kompany, Bayern’s coach. In fact, the Belgian is said to have had his eye on Karetsas for quite some time.

Kompany Is a Fan of the Dortmund Star

Michel Schröer, a reporter for BILD, now covers BVB but used to be a Bayern reporter. He recently revealed on the “Phrasenmäher” podcast that Kompany is very familiar with Karetsas’s qualities.

“I used to be a Bayern Munich reporter, so we know each other a little and exchanged greetings. Then we talked about Borussia Dortmund. He knows that I’m now covering BVB. He told me who he thinks is pretty good. The new signing Karetsas, the Greek player who also has Belgian roots,” Schröer explained.

He continued: “He played for Genk and grew up in Belgium. Kompany told me that he’s really good and that I should keep an eye on him. It almost sounded as if he’d had him on his radar for a while. He really likes him a lot.”

So could Karetsas become a possibility for FC Bayern at some point? For now, that’s a long way off—after all, the player has just transferred to Dortmund and signed a long-term contract there. But the fact that Kompany knows and values the player is a sign that he’ll be keeping a closer eye on his future career. Especially since the Greek player is now in the Bundesliga.
