The RFEF disciplinary committee has opened a case after a bottle thrown from the stands struck Valencia defender Eray Cömert at Levante’s stadium following the derby.

The flashpoint was not included in referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias’s report because he was not present. According to Tribuna Deportiva, Levante will face an extraordinary dossier with an independent instructor appointed to review evidence before a proposed resolution.

Footage released after the match showed a water bottle hitting Cömert in the face as he headed for the dressing room. A subsequent LaLiga annex said that before the throw he moved towards Valencia supporters, took hold of a corner flag, draped his shirt over it and waved it like a flag, which heightened tensions and required intervention by the National Police and security staff.

The instructor will examine the referee’s act, LaLiga and security reports, and audiovisual material. The committee will then decide whether disciplinary action against the club is appropriate.

Any punishment could include a fine and a warning of a partial stadium closure, likely covering the sector from which the object was thrown. Such measures have been applied in similar cases to tighten responsibility and prevention protocols.
