Alessio Romagnoli is reportedly edging towards a Lazio exit to join Al-Sadd, with Roberto Mancini driving the move. The Qatari side have tabled an improved proposal and the price gap has narrowed.
Il Messaggero reports Mancini called the defender and convinced him to accept the switch, even though the coach’s own future beyond the summer is uncertain. Romagnoli is said to be open to a Middle East stint regardless.
The newspaper adds Al-Sadd have offered €8 million plus €1 million in bonuses, while Lazio want €10 million. Fabrizio Romano has reported similar figures.
Romagnoli, 31, joined on a free from AC Milan in summer 2022 and has been a mainstay. He is unhappy with the hierarchy after a promised pay rise tied to 2023 Champions League qualification was not honoured.
There have been suggestions Maurizio Sarri could resign if Romagnoli is sold, given his importance to the system. Alfredo Pedullà considers that unlikely, saying Sarri is not minded to quit his three-year contract, leaving any change to president Claudio Lotito if he chooses to act.
