The French Football Federation announced on Sunday that Robin Risser has withdrawn from the France squad for this international break due to a physical issue.

The RC Lens goalkeeper had been named on Friday in Zinédine Zidane’s first squad, but will not take part as he is not fully fit.

The decision was taken in conjunction with Lens, and a change under Zidane’s staff means players who are not fully fit no longer travel to Clairefontaine for assessment.

Como goalkeeper Jean Butez, 31, has been called up to replace him, joining first-choice Mike Maignan and Guillaume Restes, who is also set for his first time at Clairefontaine.

Butez links up with his club-mate Lucas Da Cunha, another debutant. In all, six players have been summoned for the first time, the others being Andy Diouf, Jérémy Jacquet and Esteban Lepaul.

France face four Nations League fixtures, in Türkiye on 25 September, in Belgium on 28 September, then at the Stade de France against Italy on 2 October, before another game with Belgium on 5 October.
