Robin Roefs has addressed talk of a £50million move to Chelsea, stressing he is ignoring speculation and enjoying his first Premier League season with Sunderland.

According to Sunderland Echo, Chelsea are pursuing a new first-choice goalkeeper and are leading the race for the Dutchman, but would have to meet Sunderland’s £50million valuation. The report says they have been impressed by his composure in his debut campaign.

Roefs joined in August on a five-year deal after promotion and quickly became first choice under Régis Le Bris, replacing Anthony Patterson.

He said he has heard nothing from his agents and does not know what to make of the chatter, adding that people can write what they want. He views the attention as a compliment but says he is not thinking about anything beyond Sunderland right now.

The report also suggested he could consider a move if Chelsea secure Champions League football, although Sunderland’s long contract leaves them in a strong position.

Roefs said he is relishing every minute, praising the backing home and away.

Le Bris has described him as a key figure, noting that goalkeepers and centre-backs are vital to an efficient team. He highlighted Roefs’ youth and temperament in a demanding role, adding that trusting young players is part of the club’s identity.
