Robinho Jr made his first Santos appearance in nearly three months, coming on in the 46th minute of the second half in a 2-0 win over Remo at Vila Belmiro on Thursday. Well regarded by new head coach Cuca, he is expected to be given more chances and his contract renewal could be unlocked.
According to Diario Do Peixe, he had not featured since the 4-2 defeat to Chapecoense on 28 January, when he played 12 minutes. He was left out of three squads and was an unused substitute in four others, and although he appeared in the first five rounds of the Paulistão, he was not used by Vojvoda in the state competition.
His deal runs to April 2027 and Santos want to extend it to 2030. In early March he trained with the under-20s and was set to play, but did not report, saying his agent had blocked the move.
Talks stalled as his camp sought a sporting plan and more senior minutes, while the club wanted a new deal first. With Cuca’s arrival this could shift, but the club are racing to renew, as he can sign a pre-contract in October. He will not return to the under-20s for minutes.
He has 23 senior outings and one assist. Wearing the number 7 in homage to his father Robinho, he has been monitored by Inter Milan. Aged 18, he remains eligible for the under-20s, and his father is in prison in Italy for involvement in a gang rape.
