Right-back Rodinei completed his first training session with Santos at CT Rei Pelé on Monday, and could debut against Atlético-MG in the Sul-Americana quarter-final first leg on Wednesday.
“I arrived three days ago, trying to bring good energy to the lads. I spent four years in Greece and I am returning to Brazilian football. We started with a win, I am very happy with this new challenge. I will work hard for Cuca and the staff to be ready to play,” he told Santos TV.
Those who featured in the win at Internacional trained regeneratively after returning from Porto Alegre, while the rest worked as normal on the pitch.
The squad have one fuller session on Tuesday. Santos then host Atlético-MG at 19:00 at Vila Belmiro in the first leg of the quarter-finals. Registered on the BID and in the competition, Rodinei could make his debut.
“It will be a very difficult match, knockout games are complicated. The key is work, analysing the opponent, then playing well to secure a home win.”
Santos remain without centre-back Lucas Veríssimo, who is recovering from a right ankle sprain, plus attacking midfielders Neymar Jr, a type 2B right rectus femoris injury, and Barreal, a type 2A biceps femoris injury. All three are under treatment at CEPRAF at CT Rei Pelé under medical supervision.
After their away success in the Brasileirão, Santos aim to take an advantage into the return set for 19:00 next Wednesday at Arena MRV.
