Rohling with it, but Danny has it all to prove at Rangers

So what do we at Ibrox Noise think of Danny Rohl when all is said and done? Well we do like the slight feelgood factor that has appeared often as a result of punning on his name as much as anything else. Given the toxic vibe this year from the vegan fraud it’s a refreshing change.

Soundbites

We spoke in our last entry that Rohl’s initial interview offered some good soundbites, offering ‘we’ and ingratiating himself with fans. This was something his gaslighting predecessor failed to do.

And it is nice to see a little bit of a warmer atmosphere among fans even if many are dubious about Rohl’s merits. We very much include ourselves in that.

And that is the punch – Rohl has said some of the right things that have pleased many Rangers fans from the off. He’s offered unity, togetherness, and a speck of the understanding of what Rangers need and expect.

Lip service

It is however lip service. We measure our managers both on the pitch and against Celtic. They don’t score points for saying the right things to the press. They definitely lose points for saying the wrong ones.

So when all is said and done? We aren’t in the ‘give him a chance ffs’ and ‘back the manager’ banal BS that we heard under Russell Martin all year.

This blind faith is not helpful.

Fans

It never was, and our fans never learn. They see a new manager, immediately jump on that train and just back him. Whoever he is.

We’re not on that train.

Rohl has to earn Ibrox Noise’s backing instead. We do not offer him slack from the off and aren’t of a mind to just saying ‘give him a chance’ because we’ve heard that like a broken record all year.

Watch on

Instead we shall watch on with interest and hope our scepticism of his abilities is proven wrong before we feel he’s someone we want to get behind.

And we’re sure the usual types will spout the ‘call yersel a Rangers fan, get behind the manager’ garbage, the same ones in Belgium screaming ‘Martin GTF’.

So we just ignore that, and the ones who will inevitably say ‘who wrote this p*sh’ as well.

Hopefully Rohl earns our support and our faith.

Till then he’s just another man making promises.
