Roma and Mario Hermoso to discuss new deal for ex-Atletico Madrid defender | OneFootball

In just a few months, the world around Mario Hermoso has completely turned upside down.

A year ago, skepticism reigned in the capital regarding the experienced Spanish defender. Gasperini’s arrival at Roma changed the center-back’s fortunes.

From flop to indispensable, the former Atlético Madrid player quickly took the step. Roma’s management is already beginning to scan the horizon, considering the future. Which is why—according to Nicolò Schira in ‘Tuttosport‘—contacts and negotiations are about to begin for Hermoso’s contract extension.

It remains to be seen whether it will be for another two years (expiring in 2029), as the player would prefer, or whether—as per the policy established for players over 30 by sporting director D’Amico—just for one season.

The matter will be discussed in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Roma want to hold on to Hermoso, who in May declined the siren calls of Arab clubs to stay with Gasp.
