Agustín Rossi clashed with a Flamengo supporter after Arrascaeta’s equaliser in Thursday’s Libertadores quarter-final second leg at the Maracanã, later apologising for the outburst.
According to Coluna Do Fla, after celebrating with team-mates he approached the stand to remonstrate with the fan, who had criticised the team while they trailed 1-0 to Independiente del Valle.
In the mixed zone Rossi said it was an unusual reaction, born of anger at a specific supporter who at half-time claimed they would throw the game again, and he apologised. He added they did not need that kind of fan, that the players needed backing as most of the Maracanã provided until the end.
Rossi created the leveller, launching a long ball in the 38th minute of the second half that sailed over goalkeeper Quintana, allowing Arrascaeta to tap in. Reasco had earlier put Del Valle ahead.
The match finished 1-1. Having won the first leg 2-0, Leonardo Jardim’s side advanced to the semi-finals to face Estudiantes of Argentina, with ties scheduled for the weeks of 14 and 21 October, the first leg away and the return at the Maracanã.
Flamengo are next in action on Sunday 20 against Red Bull Bragantino at 18:30 Brasília time, at the Maracanã.
