Russell Martin has confirmed Harry Souttar will wear the armband for Leicester City against Notts County this weekend, despite ongoing uncertainty over the defender’s future.

Souttar captained the Foxes in the Carabao Cup win over Northampton Town last Saturday, Martin’s first competitive game in charge. He said: “With Harry, I don't know. He captained the team on Saturday (and) he will captain the team this Saturday.” The comments were given to Sky Sports News.

Martin has yet to name a permanent captain after sharing the armband in pre-season. He added: “He's been amazing since I've been in, since he came back from the World Cup. He's a proper character so it wouldn't surprise me that people are interested in him.”

The Australian has been linked with a permanent return to Sheffield United this summer. The Blades have already had two bids turned down, and Chris Wilder has publicly expressed admiration for the 27-year-old.

“We had a couple of bids but they were nowhere near the valuation of the club and what we value him at,” he said. “That might change, who knows,” he continued. “Until that happens, I'm really happy to have him here, the same with the rest of the players. We just have to be ready in case, if and when, anything does happen.”
