Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have donated £8,000 to help fund former Wrexham defender Jordan Tunnicliffe’s knee operation after his ACL injury playing for non-league Farnborough in February.

According to Wales Online, the 32-year-old faces a £13,000 bill for surgery, with Farnborough launching a GoFundMe to cover the operation and a year-long rehabilitation.

He is out of contract in two months and fears having no income to support his wife Rio, also 32, and their eight-month-old son Barnaby. The Hollywood owners left the note “Get well soon, Tunny”. Donations have now reached £16,000.

Tunnicliffe made 41 appearances in Wrexham’s 2022/23 National League promotion campaign. He initially feared the injury would end his career but says the support has renewed his ambition to return, and he plans to go private to speed up surgery.

On a semi-professional deal with Farnborough from January to the summer, he does not expect to secure a new contract while injured. He hopes to take on manual work after around six months, target a playing comeback within a year, and later finish a career that has included spells at Crawley Town, Barnsley and Fylde.

He spoke warmly of Reynolds and McElhenney from his time at Wrexham, describing them as down-to-earth and respectful of the players.
