Saint-Étienne are chasing a fourth straight Ligue 2 win for the first time this season, yet a lengthy injury list endures. They visit Pau on Saturday at 20:00 still without four defenders.
According to Le Progres, Philippe Montanier offered an update two days before the trip. He is encouraged by Chico Lamba, who has taken part in some group drills and could fully rejoin training next week.
There is progress too for Maxime Bernauer and Mahmoud Jaber. Bernauer is close to rejoining the squad very soon. Jaber is on schedule and impatient to return, but has not yet been back with the group, which, in principle, could happen within two weeks.
Lassana Traoré remains on the sidelines. Nadir El Jamali faces several weeks out and should have a minor knee procedure.
Djylian N’Guessan is still absent with a muscle issue, while Joao Ferreira continues to recover from a hand injury. Teenage Estonian forward Marten-Chris Paalberg, a late-window arrival, has suffered a setback after a slight knee problem, delaying his planned bedding-in with the reserves for at least several weeks.
