San Mamés capacity ‘could rise’ to 56,008 as Athletic seek more seats | OneFootball

Athletic president Jon Uriarte is pushing to maximise San Mamés capacity, with incremental works under study.

Deia reports that the club and stadium engineers have explored adding about 2,440 seats, taking capacity to 56,008, for a total outlay of €5.2 million.

Invitations for certain groups have been withdrawn to prioritise 11,000 fans on the membership waiting list. The move frees 1,019 seats and the club is now working on their allocation.

During the Zetak concerts on 19 and 20 June, Athletic trialled slight ramps at selected vomitories so two extra seats could be fitted on each side. The test was successful.

Uriarte cautioned that some interventions are straightforward while others are complex and may not receive permits, so work will be gradual. The club also wants to meet growing matchday VIP demand to boost income.
