According to Superdeporte, Sevilla away was Corberán’s first trip as Valencia coach, a debut on the road that looked set to deliver before unraveling at the Sánchez Pizjuán.

He had already taken charge at home against Real Madrid. The XI that night in Seville was Mamardashvili, Foulquier, Tárrega, Mosquera, Gayà, Guerra, Barrenechea, Rioja, Almeida, Diego López and Hugo Duro.

Only Javi Guerra started in the most recent match against FC Barcelona in LaLiga. In Seville Valencia competed, ceded almost nothing and led when Rioja beat Nyland for 0-1, before a rare Mamardashvili error gifted Pedrosa a goal from a shot drifting wide.

From that setback Corberán emerged stronger. Only Barcelona complicated his early spell with two heavy defeats that raised doubts. After Seville he beat Real Sociedad 1-0, Celta de Vigo 2-1 and Leganés 2-0, setting aside those Barça losses in LaLiga and Copa.

Now the coach hopes to rise from his most critical moment. It is a scenario he had not faced even last season, when the team spent much of the first half in the drop zone and part of the second near the brink. The Pizjuán was his first trip, and he hopes it will not be the last.
