According to Globo.com, Santos have reopened talks to sign Rony from Atlético-MG. Football director Alexandre Mattos has travelled to Belém, Pará, to meet agent Hércules Júnior to help secure his release.
Rony is viewed as a first team replacement after Guilherme’s move to the United States. The number 11 was sold to Houston Dynamo for around R$ 11 million, and discussions for the Atlético-MG forward involve similar figures.
He is under contract until December 2027 at Atlético-MG, who could sell permanently depending on payment guarantees. Corinthians had monitored the player but did not progress with a deal.
An exit is in Atlético-MG’s plans to create room on the wage bill and within the squad. The club plan to conclude negotiations in the coming weeks.
Despite a low potential sell on percentage, Santos view the forward as an urgent need. They have struggled in the opening Paulistão rounds and are currently outside the qualification places.
