According to Globo.com, Santos have stepped up talks to sign Fluminense midfielder Lima on loan until the end of the season, with an option to extend. The push follows possible injuries to Barreal and Neymar.
The 30-year-old has agreed to take a pay cut to make the deal feasible. Santos want him registered in time to face Atlético-MG in the Sul-Americana next week.
Lima joined América, do México, on loan from Fluminense in February, with a deal through December and a fixed purchase option. He played in 16 matches but fell out of favour after André Jardine, the coach who brought him in, left. With a new manager installed, his loan was terminated and he returned to Fluminense.
Santos are the favourites to secure him and expect to finalise the agreement by the end of this week.
Cuca identified Lima for his versatility across midfield.
