Santos face Remo on Saturday at 18:30 Brasília time at the Mangueirão in the 28th round of the Brasileirão, looking to preserve an unbeaten head-to-head that spans almost 80 years.
Neymar will not feature, as he recovers from a type 2B muscle injury to the right rectus femoris sustained early this month, Globo.com reports.
The clubs have met 12 times, with 11 Santos wins and two draws, 30 Santos goals and nine for Remo. Their first meeting was a 1947 friendly at Baenão, won 3-2, which ended a tour of more than two months.
This will be their fourth meeting of 2026. In the first round, Santos beat Remo 2-0 at Vila Belmiro with goals from Thaciano and Moisés, with Neymar heavily involved in both.
The captain also clashed with Diego Hernández and was booked, which kept him out against Flamengo. After the match he criticised referee Savio Pereira Sampaio over a remark considered sexist, earning a telling-off from a friend.
Recovery for Neymar’s injury typically ranges from four to eight weeks and he is likely to need the full spell, although the duration depends on the precise extent of the rupture.
Eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana, Santos now turn to the league run-in. They begin round 28 in 10th place on 35 points.
