On Monday, São Paulo’s Civil Police identified six Corinthians supporters over unrest that followed the club’s Libertadores quarter-final elimination. The group were due to give statements the same day and could be barred from stadiums for up to three years.

According to ge.globo, fans linked to the organised group Camisa 12 are said to have stopped cars near Neo Química Arena in an attempt to identify Corinthians players leaving the ground.

Those involved will be heard by Drade. The inquiry remains open, with officers seeking to identify other participants.

The case is being treated as promotion of tumult, an offence under article 201 of the General Sports Law. Punishment ranges from one to two years, and a conviction can carry stadium entry restrictions of up to three years. In such sentences, judges are required to replace prison terms with attendance bans of three months to three years, depending on the conduct, for first-time offenders with good records and no prior sanction under the article.

The incident followed a 1-0 home defeat by Estudiantes on 16 September at Neo Química Arena. After a 1-1 draw in Argentina, the result in Itaquera confirmed Corinthians’ exit in the quarter-finals. Alexis Castro scored the winner and Memphis Depay missed a penalty in the final moments.
