Senegal’s federation president Abdoulaye Fall says he discovered late that the national team’s doctor at the 2026 World Cup was a gynaecologist, adding to scrutiny of internal issues.

According to L'Équipe, Fall told a review press conference that Dr Fedior, the lead medic with the Lions of Teranga for 10 years, is a gynaecologist by training.

Senegal went out in the round of 16 to Belgium, losing 3-2 after extra time.

Fall said the lead doctor did not have the academic profile to support the athletes, that he learned of the speciality late, and that the players were not convinced.

The disclosure follows the recent sacking of Pape Thiaw and his staff. Since the exit, further revelations have highlighted dysfunction in the delegation’s organisation, staff operations and the team’s preparation.
