Multiple sources in the Italian media believe Lazio have secured an agreement with Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng, who is available on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old started his career at Diambars (Senegal) before being poached by Olympique Marseille in 2020. Three years later, he was sold to Lorient for €7 million. Dieng had a difficult first year at the club, so in the summer of 2024, he was loaned to Angers. Last summer, he returned to Lorient, where he enjoyed the most prolific season of his career thus far, scoring 15 goals in 25 appearances.
This summer, the Pikine native was included in Senegal’s World Cup squad, but he was only given a seven-minute cameo on the opening matchday against France.
While Lazio were reportedly working on signing Sassuolo striker Andrea Pinamonti, the club has suddenly found an accord with Dieng, as confirmed by several sources on Wednesday afternoon. Italian journalists Alfredo Pedulla and Gianluca Di Marzio believe negotiations are at an advanced stage, whereas Matteo Moretto insists the club has already booked a medical for the striker.
Lazio insider Damiano Er Faina also confirmed the news while blasting the management for this ‘amateurish’ move and blaming Gennaro Gattuso for giving the green light. On the contrary, Moretto believes the head coach wasn’t in favour of signing Dieng, as Pinamonti was his preferred choice.
TuttoMercatoWeb expect the Senegalese forward to sign a two-year contract with an option for a third, although a three-year deal could be a possibility.
