Serie A defender reacts to Barcelona transfer speculation – “It’s always nice” | OneFootball

During the summer transfer window, Barcelona were linked with a surprise move for Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco. The Catalans reportedly proposed a swap deal involving Alejandro Balde, although that was knocked back by the Nerazzurri.

Dimarco has been one of the most productive wing-backs in Europe over the last few years, and his performances have been of great interest to Barcelona. Joao Cancelo has shown that an attacking threat from the left is ideal in Hansi Flick’s system, and the Italian could be an ideal option to pursue again in 2027 – especially as his contract expires at the end of the season.

At Wednesday’s Gran Gala del Calcio, Lautaro Martinez expressed his commitment to Inter Milan, but teammate Dimarco was much less emphatic when he also reacted to Barcelona’s reported interest in his services (via MD).

Dimarco would be excellent signing – if he arrives as free agent

At 28, Dimarco is four years younger than Cancelo, and thus, he would be able to take over the Portuguese’s mantle if he ended up at Barcelona. It would be a fantastic deal for the Catalans if they were to pick him up as a free agent, but if he ended up renewing, there would be little point in exploring this further.

Furthermore, it may not be worth it to sign Dimarco if it meant sacrificing Balde. While it’s true that the La Masia graduate has struggled in the last 12 months, he is still very capable of being one of the best left-backs in the world.
