Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco addresses Barcelona links: ‘Always nice to be linked with the big clubs’ | OneFootball

Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco has admitted that it was flattering to be linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, following reports of interest from FC Barcelona towards the end of the transfer window.

In the final week of the summer window, reports emerged that the Blaugrana were considering a move for the left-back.

It was suggested that a swap deal involving Alejandro Balde was in the works, although nothing came of it in the end.

Dimarco discusses Barcelona links

With his name linked to Barcelona during the closing stages of the summer market, Dimarco was asked about the reported interest.

“It’s always nice to be linked with the big clubs,” Dimarco told Sky Sport, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo.

The Italy international was quick to emphasise his longstanding connection with Inter, however, as he said:

“They already know my story at Inter. I’ve been here for many years and I grew up here.”

Dimarco yet to discuss a new contract

Despite his loyalty to Inter, Dimarco confirmed that contract renewal talks have not yet begun.

His current deal expires in 2027, meaning he could become one of the most sought-after free agents next summer if an extension cannot be agreed.

“As for the renewal, we haven’t spoken about it yet. I expected it to be sorted given how last season ended, but we’ll have the opportunity to discuss it soon,” he confirmed.

His comments suggest that the door remains open to a new agreement with the Nerazzurri.

Dimarco also expressed his disappointment at the departure of sporting director Piero Ausilio, who left the Serie A champions after 28 years at the club.

The unexpected change represents another factor to consider when assessing Dimarco’s future at Inter, particularly with his contract situation still unresolved.

For now, the defender remains committed to the Nerazzurri, but his contract situation could make his future one to watch over the coming months.

Whether Barcelona revisit their interest in the defender in January or the summer will be interesting to see.

Dimarco was instrumental in Inter Milan’s Serie A title triumph last season, contributing seven goals and 18 assists. His performances earned him the 2025/26 Serie A MVP award at Wednesday’s Gran Gala del Calcio.
