With the summer window closing in, Sunderland are safe and still chasing an outside route into Europe. Regis Le Bris has fashioned a Premier League defence, but extra depth and reliable goals remain desirable. Last summer’s continental intake, including Granit Xhaka, has paid off.
According to Sunderland Echo, seven European options could fit that brief. Strasbourg striker Joaquin Panichelli, 23, has 16 in 27 and, at 1.90m, offers aerial presence, hold-up play and a focal point. Despite a deal to 2030, a realistic Ligue 1 fee could make him attainable.
Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell, 23, starts regularly, wins duels and passes progressively, adding leadership to a unit that lacks depth for a higher finish. Utrecht left-back Souffian El Karouani, 25, supplies overlaps and assists with sound defending, improving width and transitions at sensible cost.
Como playmaker Nico Paz, 21, has 10 goals and six assists in 29 Serie A outings, offering vision, dribbling and end product. Able to operate centrally or wide, he could lift Sunderland’s chance creation.
Braga’s Rodrigo Zalazar, 26, has produced 15 in the league, goals and assists combined, while covering ground box to box. His energy, long-range shooting and defensive work could reinforce midfield creativity and bite at a reasonable price.
AZ Alkmaar forward Troy Parrott, 24, has 14 goals and four assists in 23 matches, adding pace, versatility and cutting edge. Ajax winger Mika Godts, 20, has 14 goals and nine assists in 26, bringing speed, skill and the developmental upside that fits Sunderland’s model.
