Wrexham are interested in bolstering their creative midfield options with the addition of Sheffield United's Callum O'Hare before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

The Red Dragons have been slow out of the blocks once again in their second campaign back in the Championship, going winless in their first three league games. Indeed, their two points collected are actually one better than what they managed this time last year.

Consecutive draws to open the campaign were followed up by a loss at the Racecourse against Birmingham City on Friday. A game where, despite having the lion's share of the ball, Phil Parkinson's side struggled to create big chances to the level they'd be wanting to this season.

A move for a creative midfielder could be on the cards in the final hours of the transfer window, and O'Hare seems to be one of their options.

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United are getting ready for some late interest in O'Hare from Wrexham, a player whose importance to the Blades has increased as the summer has gone on.

The 28-year-old was a rare positive in what was a dismal campaign last season for the Bramall Lane-based side, registering 16 goal contributions and winning the club's Player of the Year award.

Sheffield United have since had to reluctantly offload the likes of Gustavo Hamer and Andre Brooks, two creative wide men, over the summer as they navigate new financial barricades amid their first window as a Championship club without parachute payments since January 2019.

While Ben Brereton Diaz and Romelle Donovan have come in on loan to try and shoulder the creative load following their departures, O'Hare will still be relied on heavily to be the leading force in the Blades midfield, and already has two goals in five games this season.

Interest from a fellow Championship side will be the last thing that Sheffield United fans want to hear, and will very much test the resolve and the ambitions of the higher-ups at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United fans wouldn't have been too thrilled with the prospect of selling O'Hare at any point in this window, let alone with less than two days remaining until it shuts.

Blades fans have reacted as such on X, and unless Wrexham are coming in with a hefty eight-figure offer, they aren't interested in seeing him leave Bramall Lane.

"Not a chance surely... right?" one fan questioned. "We aren't selling O'hare... Not a chance with Hamer already gone; he's the only one we have to play that position," another said.

"Our only creative spark we have left. Surely £8m-£10m," one Blades fan commented, outlining a potential price, while someone took that even further, saying "£20 mil or do one."

And one even felt that they should turn it down unless they receive a "club record fee." Evidently, it's a firm no from those in the stands at Bramall Lane.

It's not been the smoothest of summers for Sheffield United, with high-profile departures being the dominant news coming out of their transfer business, and many encouraging links with top players have seen sides with healthier financial positions beat them to a deal.

The likes of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Harry Souttar were deemed unrealistic targets by the owners at Bramall Lane, so the prospect of losing O'Hare is made even worse by the dread that comes with the thought of who could replace him who is within their budget and could provide a similar creative spark.

And, ultimately, there wouldn't be a lot of time for that replacement to be found, with the transfer window closing at 11pm tomorrow.

Letting yet another one of their top attacking talents leave for fellow Championship opposition would be yet another gut punch in what's been a massively underwhelming summer window for Sheffield United.
