Former Leicester City player Shinji Okazaki is currently training with Sint-Truiden and is reportedly hoping to be offered a contract by the club.
Okazaki, 36, ended up as a free agent this summer following the expiration of his contract with Spanish second division side FC Cartagena.
He didn’t have the best final season with them, starting just nine league games and scoring just two goals, and given that as well as his age, clubs haven’t exactly been queing up to sign him.
Nevertheless, he has no plans to retire and is hoping to play in Belgium this season after beginning to train with Sint-Truiden, as reported by Het Nieuwsblad.
The publication state that he offered himself to the club, and their own interest in signing him is unclear. They would reportedly like to sign Okazaki’s compatriot, Taichi Hara, from Alaves after he impressed in his loan spell last year.
If his services can’t be secured though, and Okazaki impresses in training, he could well be the other Japanese player to join Shinji Kagawa at the club.
