“Simply not good enough” – Former Germany and Liverpool star slams Wirtz’s performances | OneFootball

Markus Babbel has joined Jamie Carragher in strongly criticising Florian Wirtz’s performances for Liverpool since his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen a year ago.

“He is not showing what he is capable of. And he hasn’t been for more than a year now, which is starting to concern me,” Babbel said in an interview with ran.

“I can totally understand that you need a certain amount of time to settle into the Premier League, because we’re talking about a different sport. So it was clear to me that he would need some time," added the former Germany and Liverpool player.

“He runs around, but that’s about it. And when you know the Florian Wirtz we saw at Leverkusen, that simply isn’t good enough. I would like to see him understand what is required in the Premier League. At the moment, he is simply going along for the ride.

“Florian Wirtz simply has to put his stamp on games more. And right now, he is not capable of doing that."

Wirtz has been included in the second of Jürgen Klopp’s two Germany squads for the upcoming four UEFA Nations League fixtures. He's therefore in contention to feature in the home game against Serbia on October 1 and the away match against Greece on October 4.
